Marley and Me

I watched Marley and Me over a month ago and so strong was its impression on me that I completely forgot to write a review of it. Because of that, this review is going to be short and sweet.

marleyandmeIt’s simply not very good. Sure, the dog’s cute but that’s pretty much all it has going for it. Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston are one of the most irritating screen couples in recent years – it’s as if they were cast just to make the dog cuter. There are a couple of funny scenes including one in which Marley mounts Kathleen Turner’s tyrannical dog trainer, but mostly it’s another ponderous and overlong drama masquerading as a rom-com. It stayed in the UK box office top ten for ages merely because we’re a nation of dog lovers which puts me – a ‘cat person’ – in a vast minority. If someone made a terrible film about drinking tea, people would flock to see it. And it would be better than this.
